The use of hot stones to improve health and relaxation dates back thousands of years. They were used for placement within Ayurveda practice in India, for healing and improving the function of internal organs in China and in Hawaaii by the medicine shamans known as "Kahunas'. Historically hot stones warmed by fire were used by native Americans to give relief to aching muscles and the ancient stones were known for their spiritual aspect.


Basalt is a type of igneous rock that forms from the lava of an erupting volcano. It hardens and weathers to smooth, flat stones that when heated hold their warmth, making them ideal for massage.
